Our Story
Canterbury Cranes Limited was incorporated in 2013 when Blair began his journey as a contractor. A few years later, he was encouraged to build his own fleet and took a leap of faith by putting down a $5k deposit on a Franna crane, with 90 days to pay the balance. This determination and willingness to take risks laid the foundation for the company’s growth.
The breakthrough came when Canterbury Cranes won a three-month hire tender at the University of Canterbury. By devising a unique solution—using a small crane inside the building and working outward—they completed the job efficiently and cost-effectively. This innovative approach positioned the company as a go-to provider for smart solutions to challenging and complex projects. Canterbury Cranes soon earned a reputation for tackling jobs that other companies deemed too difficult.
Initially, Blair’s goal was to keep the company smaller than it is now. Though it has gradually grown through customer demand, wanting more from their services. The team are now seeing that with every addition of a crane, the demand for the next size up is growing.
The objective now, is to continue delivering to the strong reputation Canterbury Cranes are known for, to grow roots further in the industry to become ‘the’ provider Cantabrians choose for their lifting and haulage requirements.
